Contemplating going to see a counsellor can sometimes feel like a daunting
task. Our counsellors make every effort to provide a comfortable, pleasant
and non-threatening environment. Every person is unique and presents their
own particular history and set of concerns, and these need to be respected.
There are a number of different well researched theoretical approaches
to counselling all of which can be very beneficial to clients. Instead
of a singular approach, our counsellors draw on those approaches which
are most likely to aid the specific issue that you are facing.
Couple's therapy is often quite different from individual therapy given that it is focused specifically on the relationship between two people. While it has much in common with other forms of therapy, couples therapy also involves a range of different ideas and interventions.
Family Therapy is counselling which involves the whole family or at least several members of the family. This can simply involve Mum and Dad and their son or daughter coming to resolve a school issue or family concern. At other times this involves resolving wider family disputes and difficulties. Sometimes family therapy involves mums and dads coming to learn how to be more effective in their approach to parenting.
Our counsellors use an integrated approach to therapy drawing on a range of well researched forms of counselling including: Psychodynamic, Person-centred, Cognitive-behavioural and Narrative, to name a few. Typically, therapy is a mixture of self-discovery, education, and problem solving and skill development. To meet the needs of those in remote areas Peter Janetzki & Associates provide telephone consultations. These are treated like any other counselling appointment.
All information provided to your counsellor is confidential except in the case of a court order (subpoena), disclosure of a serious criminal offence or a life-threatening situation (suicidal or homicidal intent).
We do not provide a crisis counselling service and all clients are requested to report suicidal impulses to their general practitioner or other medical treatment provider. A variety of consultation times are available including some after hours appointments. We also provide telephone counselling for those living outside the Brisbane area. Because Peter Janetzki & Associates is a private practice we do not receive any financial support from the Government or community agencies, therefore we are a fee for service practice. Standard consultation fees vary from $80.00 - $120.00 (GST inc.) for a one hour session. Fees may be reduced in special circumstances. These fees cannot be claimed from Medicare. Concession fees are available in special circumstances. Please note that the recommended fee, by the Australian Psychological Society, for a psychologist standard one hour consultation is $229.00 not including GST. Cancellations & Missed Appointments A fee equal to half your normal consultation fee will be incurred if you do not give at least 24 hours notice or fail to attend your appointment (excluding emergencies and circumstances beyond your control), This enables us to keep costs to a minimum and make times available for other clients. Payment methods are EFTPOS, credit cards, cash or cheque, please note that we do not accept Diners Club or American Express.
Counselling services provided by counsellors are not normally able to be claimed through health insurance. Some claims may be made with certain health funds in “extra cover” when claimed as part of the “lifestyle” category.
